The crisis in the world economy has had a disruptive effect on the credit portfolio of Italian companies, which is increasingly characterised by non-performing loans. The need to finance customers leads to an increase in financial requirements and a growing degree of risk.

On the one hand, the dynamics of receivables at risk suggest prudence and a careful assessment of loans because non-performing loans could increase; on the other hand, the increase in competitive dynamics leads companies to exploit all competitive levers, including customer credit, to consolidate and/or develop their market presence; this requires the need to structure themselves to adequately manage credit and the risk associated with it.

In addition to its economic value, the granting of credit should also be assessed from a financial point of view, as it reduces the company’s ability to produce cash flows in its current operations.

The dual economic and financial value of trade receivables requires, therefore, to balance the two analysis perspectives, in a trade receivables management process composed of a series of interrelated and harmoniously integrated activities, ranging from the planning phase of credit granting policies to the recovery of non-performing receivables.

Credit risk, i.e. the risk of commercial insolvency of customers, is an important variable to manage, even more so in the current crisis context.

On 11 April 2016, the Scheme was approved by Accredia (MISE). With Accredia’s recognition, the CRMS FP 07:2015 Scheme is now in the public domain at national level.
